The Times May Be a-Changing, But Advertising Tactics Haven’t

Back in 1964, the world renowned activist-slash-musician penned his still famous The Times Are a-Chagin’ much to the agreement of the American population at that time, who after experiencing a series of consecutive revolutionary events, where shocked to discover — or realize — the direction their beloved country was going in.

Well, not much has changed.

Now, the global population may still feel very much the same was as their relatives did during the 1960’s, when Dylan’s poignant song was released amid significant civil and social unrest. Gil Scott-Heron, another highly influential artist during the 1960’s and 70’s, is perhaps best known for his poem “The Revolution Will Not be Televised”, recorded on his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lennox.

Scott-Heron was absolutely right; the revolution won’t be televised, but it will be tweeted, posted, shared, and liked on social media outlets across the world. As Dylan said, the time’s are definitely a-changing and fast.

Social media was not only able to unite the world on social level, but a professional one as well. It’s become standard practice for corporations and businesses alike to engage their target audience on social media. In fact, it’s almost become obligatory or expected at this point.
