TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas and is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. It is often used to weld thin sections of stainless steel, as well as copper and magnesium.

Welding is a growing industry and possibly employs more workers each year. According to the U.S. Bureau Labor of Statistics, employment for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to reach 412,300 by the year 2024. That industry remains a growing field. It is possible that this has occurred because of the growth of manufacturing.

Welding goes by many different names, including titanium welding, and can be used in various processes, including oven repair, wheel repair, steel fabrication, mechanical seal replacement, metal fabrication, and preventative maintenance. The ability to repair, fabricate, and weld materials is an important point within the welding industry.

Welders typically work as part of a company, often involving lower to mid-level products such as low cost jewelry, low worth vehicles, metal appliances and metal furniture, as well as metal artwork and metal hanging signs. But welders can also work on higher end products, such as airplanes, new cars, expensive artwork, and large buildings.

By the year 2020, the international metal fabrication equipment market is expected to grow by nearly 7%. The growth in manufacturing, the proliferation of new buildings, the need for more furniture as the population grows have all likely contributed to the growth or will contribute to the expected growth of the metal fabrication equipment market.

Aluminum is one of the most recycled materials on the market. 75% of aluminum produced in the U.S. still exists.

The metal fabrication market also has a hand in producing and repairing food processing machinery. Food processing machinery is the equipment that is used to handle and prepare food for packaging.
